Monaco interested in signing Madrid’s Left Back

According to rumors, Monaco is interested in signing out-of-favor Real Madrid defender Marcelo with a French club willing to give the 32-year-old a three-year deal.

With Ferland Mendy now Zinedine Zidane’s first choice left-back option, Marcelo has fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.

The Brazilian is wanted by Monaco and they are willing to give him a long contract, considering his age, according to BeIn Sports, as stated by AS. The defender will, however, have to take a pay blow.

His current deal, expiring in 2022, is estimated to be worth £ 8 million a year, whilst the bid from Monaco will see him making £ 5.34 million a year.

Because of the duration of the deal, AS say the left back will be willing to consider the drop in pay.

Under Zidane, Marcelo does not look to have Real. Four of his six LaLiga starts finished in loss and the club managed to hold just one clean sheet in the games he started.

He has featured just once in this season’s Champions League – a 3-2 loss in October by Shakhtar Donetsk.

During the 2019-2020 season, the defender was in and out of the squad with injuries restricting his playing time.

Before that, after making the move from Fluminense in January 2007, he was a regular starter and was the club’s first choice left back.

Juventus are also said to be involved in Marcelo’s signature. In the past, the Italians were associated with a transfer, but the defender played down the rumors earlier last year.
