Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Manchester United boss, says the club wants to speak to striker Edinson Cavani over a new deal.
The 34-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli star is emerging as United’s first-choice striker despite scoring only seven goals in 24 appearances for the club.
The 34-year-old joined United in October on a one-year contract and has made a good impact already, scoring seven times.
It seems likely that United will offer to renew the South American contract, but Solskjaer says that before the end of the season, negotiations with his officials will decide that.
United would like to discuss contract concerns before the end of March
The opportunity to enlarge is open, but it can only be achieved if both parties consent.”I can only say Edinson has done well,
” Solskjaer said.”I’ve been impressed by him, he’s really gelled in the group and we’ll sit down and speak with him in the near future to see his plans and ours.”
Cavani missed the Europa League win over Real Sociedad in Turin on Thursday with a muscle injury and will have a late fitness test to see if he can return against Newcastle on Sunday.
